However, when discussing those who sacrificed their lives for their country and nation, such discourse must be guided by responsibility, restraint, and respect.
\nThe martyrs of the Pakistan Armed Forces do not belong to a single institution, political party, or government; they belong to the entire nation. Their sacrifices rise above political disagreements and temporary circumstances. This is why people from every school of thought in Pakistan regard honouring the martyrs as a national obligation. It is an undeniable reality that every young person who joins the Pakistan Armed Forces is not merely accepting a job but choosing a path where the risk of death is ever-present. If earning a salary were the only objective, many professions are offering better financial rewards and comparatively safer working conditions. A soldier, however, understands that wearing the uniform demands readiness for sacrifice at every moment.
\nThe personnel serving in Pakistan\u2019s border regions, snow-covered mountains, rugged valleys, deserts, and areas affected by terrorism perform their duties despite extreme weather, constant danger, and enemy attacks. Their motivation extends far beyond a paycheck; it is driven by the honor of the nation, the security of the state, and the protection of its people. Whether during the 1965 war, the tragic events of 1971, the snow-covered heights of Kargil, or the long campaign against terrorism, thousands of officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Armed Forces sacrificed their lives. In North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Swat, Bajaur, Khyber, Mohmand, and the remote regions of Balochistan, countless servicemen embraced martyrdom so that the people of Pakistan could live in peace.
\nThe sacrifices Pakistan has made in the fight against terrorism are among the greatest made by any nation in modern history. Thousands of officers and soldiers lost their lives, while many others suffered life-changing injuries and permanent disabilities. As a result of these sacrifices, peace gradually returned to Pakistan, markets reopened, educational institutions resumed operations, and citizens were able to return to their normal lives.
\nIn Islam, defending one\u2019s homeland is considered a noble responsibility. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that whoever loses his life while defending his wealth, his life, or his family is a martyr. In light of this teaching, those who sacrifice themselves in defence of their country are held in the highest esteem.
\nThe greatness of a martyr is not confined to the battlefield. Their families continue to bear the burden of that sacrifice throughout their lives. A mother loses her beloved son, a wife endures the pain of losing her husband, and children grow up without the guidance and protection of their father. Therefore, whenever the subject of martyrs is discussed, the emotions and sacrifices of their families must also be respected. In a democracy, everyone has the right to criticise governments, question policies, and advocate reforms within institutions. However, political disagreements should never diminish or disrespect the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for their country. The people of Pakistan have always honoured their martyrs. Whenever a fallen soldier\u2019s funeral takes place, the entire nation shares in the grief. Citizens gather to pay tribute, demonstrating that the nation never forgets the sacrifices of those who protect it. It is therefore essential that political leaders, religious scholars, intellectuals, journalists, and all prominent public figures adopt language that strengthens national unity. Differences of opinion will always exist, but the honor and dignity of the nation\u2019s martyrs should remain above political division. The soldiers of the Pakistan Armed Forces perform their duties with the conviction that, if necessary, they will sacrifice their lives for their homeland. This spirit of devotion is one of the defining qualities that distinguishes them among the world\u2019s professional armed forces.
