\nIran\u2019s foreign ministry said on Monday it had summoned the French ambassador to Tehran to protest the conduct of two diplomats who were briefly detained earlier this month.
\n\u201cYesterday, the French ambassador in Tehran was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where it was stressed that the French government must cease such actions and such interference in Iran\u2019s internal affairs under misleading labels,\u201d said the ministry\u2019s spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei in a weekly press briefing.
\nOn July 20, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said two French diplomats in Iran were targeted by Iranian officials the day before and suffered \u201can extremely serious act of intimidation\u201d by the Islamic republic\u2019s security services.<\/p>\n
He said the diplomats had \u201cinterfered in Iran\u2019s internal affairs under the pretext of engaging with civil society.\u201d Their actions, Baqaei said, were \u201cin no way justified under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.\u201d
\nBoth were \u201cdetained for several hours without reason, interrogated, and one of them was physically abused\u201d before they were able to return to the embassy, he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
