SNGPL, SSGC have forwarded petitions to OGRA seeking gas tariff hike

\nThe Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have forwarded petitions to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to increase gas prices with effect from July 1, 2019, sources said on Monday.
\nSNGPL, that serves Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has sought a 144% increase in gas tariffs while the SSGC, that serves Sindh and Balochistan, has sought an 18% increase per MMBTU (Metric Million British Thermal Unit).
\nOGRA will hold discussions on SNGPL and SSGCL\u2019s petitions and apprise the Petroleum Division regarding its decision. The final decision regarding a hike in gas tariffs will be taken by the federal government.
\nEarlier this month, Nadeem Babar, head of Prime Minister Imran Khan\u2019s Task Force on Energy Reforms, told Reuters that the government plans to offer dozens of gas field concessions in the coming year to fill in a fuel shortage.
\nIn January this year, Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered that the managing directors of SNGPL and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) be removed immediately from their posts owing to the gas crisis in the country.
\nPakistan\u2019s domestic gas output has plateaued in the last five years, falling to 1.46 trillion cubic feet in 2017\/18, from 1.51 trillion cubic feet in 2012\/2013, according to an annual report from the Petroleum Ministry.
\nThis has led to severe gas shortages as Pakistan\u2019s population, now at 208 million people, has risen sharply over the same period, driving fuel demand from industries and new power plants higher.
\nGas demand was estimated at 6.9 billion cubic feet per day for 2017\/18, according to OGRA, nearly 3 billion cubic feet more than daily output.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
