ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari on Monday said the government had reviewed a number of contracts signed in the past and had formulated a set of principles to ensure that future governments could not violate them. Talking to private news channel, the minister said most of the proposed reforms had already been implemented and would help prevent policy deviations that could adversely affect the country\u2019s energy sector in the future. Responding to a question, he said adherence to these principles would increase the chances of delivering benefits to the public, saying that policies often suffered when established rules were ignored. He said the government had adopted a key principle under which future governments would not purchase electricity in a manner that created unnecessary liabilities. Laghari said that these measures would improve governance and decision making in the power sector and help avoid problems that had emerged due to past policy shortcomings.
