\nMinister for energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has said Pakistan is not facing the challenge of production of electricity but it is facing challenge of effective use electricity and its storage.
\nHe said this while addressing Solar Storage and Flexibility 2026 Conference here.
\nHe said IMF is not allowing us to provide inexpensive electricity in specific hours. Dialogue with IMF on this facility are underway since several previous months.
\nUse of electricity can be increased in the country due to this facility. IMF will be persuaded to this facility.
\nSeveral major energy reforms are being introduced in Pakistan. All the facts will be placed before IMF and they will be persuaded.
\nPakistan first comprehensive energy plan will come in April in next year.
\nHe held Pakistan is passing through historical transformation in electricity sector. Solar power potential has reached near 38000 megawatts in the country.
\nPakistan is not facing the challenge of generation of electricity but it is facing the challenge of effective use of electricity and its storage.
\nBattery energy storage systems are indispensible for transmission of electricity and stability of grid. The energy generated from local sources solidifies country\u2019s energy sovereignty.
\nReliance on imported fuel is a threat for economy and energy security. The country had to face load shedding at night being the RLNG supply from Qatar affected. Electricity situation remained relatively better due to availability of solar electricity in day time.
\nThe share of SAAF energy has reached 55 percent in electricity production in Pakistran. Not only solar and wind but 90 percent clean energy target cannot be achieved without battery storage.
\nGovernment is placing special focus on development of local industry of battery energy storage.
\nIndustry ministry is giving final shape to local battery manufacturing policy. Government has set up Steering committee for energy storage systems.
\nPilot projects of battery energy storage have been approved in DISCOs. Data to be obtained from pilot projects will become basis for future regulatory policy.
\nGovernment is setting up National Battery Energy Storage Framework. Clear rules for safety standards, grid connection and investment are part of new frame work.
\nLocal engineering, system integration and battery management soft ware will be encouraged.
\nExtending invitation to global investors and technology companies for making investment in Pakistan he said the recommendations of conference will become part of government policy making process directly.
