Kurram: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday held a memorial reference in Orakzai district to honour the slain tribal elder and peace advocate Haji Izzat Gul, with senior officials describing his contribution to peacebuilding and tribal reconciliation in Kohat Division, particularly in Kurram district, as enduring and invaluable. The ceremony was attended by the Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah, Deputy Commissioner Orakzai Yousaf Ali Mohmand, Deputy Commissioner Hangu Baseer Ali Rehman, tribal elders and representatives from different walks of life. Commissioner Shah laid a floral wreath at the portrait of the late Haji Izzat Gul and offered prayers, while a police contingent presented a ceremonial salute in his honour. In accordance with tribal traditions, Haji Izzat Gul\u2019s son, Malik Faizullah, was formally invested with the traditional Qallah Lungi and named his successor. Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Shah said Haji Izzat Gul had played a key role in promoting peace, strengthening tribal harmony and helping implement peace agreements across Kohat Division, especially in Kurram, where tribal mediation has been central to efforts to reduce recurring violence. \nHe said the late tribal elder had dedicated his life to fostering lasting peace and ultimately sacrificed his life in pursuit of that cause.
\nDeputy Commissioner Orakzai Yousaf Ali Mohmand and Deputy Commissioner Hangu Baseer Ali Rehman said Haji Izzat Gul\u2019s legacy reflected not only his personal commitment but also the collective efforts of tribal elders working to promote peace, social cohesion and stability in the region.
\nThe speakers said the sacrifices made by tribal elders in support of peace in Kohat Division, particularly in Kurram district, would remain an important part of the region\u2019s history, adding that Haji Izzat Gul\u2019s commitment would continue to inspire future peace efforts.
