According to a statement issued on Monday the department said the allocation earmarked for medicines would be used only for that purpose and strictly in accordance with the approved Standard Medicine List (SML), existing rules and relevant guidelines. The department made it clear that no part of the medicine budget could be diverted to any other activity, purpose or expenditure. It also prohibited the use of the current year\u2019s allocation for clearing past liabilities, dues or pending payments from previous financial years.
