\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah on Monday directed the provincial administration to introduce a performance-based ranking system for all deputy commissioners (DCs), with their scores linked to the implementation of assigned development and administrative tasks.
\nHe issued the directives while chairing the weekly review meeting, which took stock of ongoing development projects, administrative initiatives and public service measures across the province.
\nThe meeting was informed that 69 beautification projects had been completed at the district level across the province, while authorities were also responding to public complaints highlighted on social media.
\nOfficials said seven innovative initiatives had been shortlisted for implementation across districts. All DCs have been tasked with rolling out the initiatives in their respective districts.
\nThe initiatives include youth digital skills and e-commerce training, digitisation of district record rooms, the Umeed-e-Sehat telemedicine programme, district-level digital marketplaces, mosque health desks, a community flagpole warning system and measures to control communicable diseases.
\nThe meeting was also informed that several districts had launched rainwater harvesting projects. Since June 28, authorities have conducted 274 operations against illegal tree felling, resulting in the seizure of 5,743 cubic feet of timber and 35,962 kilograms of firewood.
\nThe chief secretary directed that the performance-based ranking of DCs be introduced in August, with assessments directly linked to the progress made on tasks assigned to the districts.
\nRegarding infrastructure development in Peshawar, the meeting was informed that work on the General Bus Stand had been completed, while construction of the northern section of the Ring Road was nearing completion.
\nOfficials also said the Kabotar Chowk underpass was expected to be completed in record time. Plans are also under way to undertake tree plantation and beautification around underpasses in the provincial capital.
