\nThe federal government\u2019s debt increased by Rs18,832 billion during the initial 28 months of the current period, with both domestic and external borrowing rising significantly, according to State Bank of Pakistan documents.
\nAccording to the documents, the federal government\u2019s domestic debt increased by Rs16,766 billion, while its external debt rose by Rs2,066 billion between March 2024 and June 2026. The increase translates into an average rise of more than Rs22.40 billion in debt every day.
\nThe documents showed that the federal government\u2019s debt stood at Rs64,810 billion by February 2024, the final month of the caretaker government. Following an increase of Rs18,832 billion over the subsequent 28 months, the government\u2019s total debt reached Rs83,642 billion by June 2026.
\nAccording to State Bank documents, the central government\u2019s domestic debt stood at Rs42,675 billion in February 2024, which increased to Rs59,441 billion by June 2026.
