Forms special committee for modernization of distribution system
\n PESHAWAR
\nThe Board of Directors of Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (TESCO), in its 82nd meeting, approved a development budget of Rs. 2,570 million and an operational budget of Rs. 2,843 million for the financial year 2026\u201327. The Board also approved the formation of a Special Committee to examine the prospects of modernizing TESCO\u2019s electricity distribution system through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced digital technologies.
\nThe meeting was chaired by Chairman Board of Directors Engineer Muhammad Naeem. Board Directors Ms. Farah Hamid Khan, Naveed Orakzai, Nisar Ahmed, Ehtisham-ul-Haq and Irfan Aman Yousafzai, along with TESCO Chief Executive Officer Tahir Jamal, attended the meeting. Company Secretary Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Jan briefed the Board in detail on various agenda items.
\nThe Board approved appointments to the position of Chief Executive Officer and other senior management positions aimed at further strengthening the company\u2019s administrative structure. The Board observed that these appointments were part of efforts to fulfill legal requirements and improve the overall performance of the company.
\nDuring the meeting, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology Mardan, Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan, delivered a detailed briefing to the Board of Directors and TESCO officers on modernizing the electricity distribution system and making it more efficient, reliable and technology-driven.
\nDr. Gul Muhammad Khan stated that \u201cthe use of Artificial Intelligence and advanced digital technologies in the distribution system can significantly improve system performance.\u201d He explained that technologies including smart metering, transformer monitoring, automated fault detection, remote switching and renewable energy integration could help reduce electricity losses, improve load management and ensure the timely provision of accurate information to consumers.
\nOn the directives of the Chairman Board, the Special Committee, comprising relevant TESCO officers, will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the proposed modern technologies in light of the company\u2019s requirements, technical capabilities and ground realities. The committee will present its recommendations at the next meeting of the Board of Directors.
\nThe Board of Directors termed these decisions an important step towards enhancing transparency, efficiency and service delivery in TESCO\u2019s electricity distribution system.
