{"id":564189,"date":"2026-08-28T09:26:55","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T04:26:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=564189"},"modified":"2026-08-28T09:26:55","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T04:26:55","slug":"nchd-to-begin-literacy-courses-for-inmates-of-kohat-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/nchd-to-begin-literacy-courses-for-inmates-of-kohat-jail\/","title":{"rendered":"NCHD to begin literacy courses for inmates of Kohat Jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DLP Report<br \/>\nPESHAWAR<br \/>\nA delegation of the officials of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) visited District Jail Kohat and discussed the proposed launch of the Adult Literacy and Functional Literacy Programme for the inmates.<br \/>\nThe two-member delegation was composed of Deputy Director NCHD Hassan Afridi and Field Officer Kohat Waqar.<br \/>\nThe programme will commence with three months each of Adult Literacy and Functional Literacy courses, followed by a six-month Skill Development Programme.<br \/>\nThe initiative is being implemented under the Rehabilitation, Integration, Skills and Education (RISE) Federal Government programme, funded by the Pakistan Human Development Fund (PHDF).<br \/>\nA total of 26 jails across Pakistan have been selected for the programme, including four jails in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with District Jail Kohat being one of them.<br \/>\nA baseline survey will be conducted at District Jail Kohat during the coming week, and the programme is expected to be formally launched by mid-September 2026.<br \/>\nIt is worth recalling that the Adult Literacy Programme was initially introduced at District Jail Abbottabad in year 2019 and subsequently expanded throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and, later, to jails across Pakistan.<br \/>\nIn the same spirit, District Jail Kohat has the opportunity to emerge as a pioneer in this new initiative, further strengthening the rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners through education and skill development.<br \/>\nThe initiative reflects the commitment of the Inspector General of Prisons and his team towards introducing meaningful rehabilitation, education and vocational opportunities for inmates and preparing them for a productive and dignified life after release.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DLP Report PESHAWAR A delegation of the officials of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) visited District Jail Kohat and discussed the proposed launch of the Adult Literacy and Functional Literacy Programme for the inmates.
