\nThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has started examining options for the effective use of around 55 kanals of valuable land owned by the transport department at the Peshawar Bus Terminal in the Lahore Adda area, with a view to serving the public interest and improving provincial resources.
\nSpecial Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Samiullah Khan and Adviser to the finance department Muzammil Aslam visited the Peshawar Bus Terminal on Tuesday to inspect the terminal, vacant land surrounding it and an under-construction building.
\nSecretary Transport and Mass Transit Mohammad Zubair, Secretary Planning and Development Adil Shah, Director Transport Hassan Abid, the terminal administrator and other relevant officials accompanied them.
\nThe officials briefed the special assistant and finance adviser on the existing condition of the bus terminal, available facilities and the land owned by the Transport Department. They were informed that the department owned around 55 kanals of land within the terminal premises, including the area occupied by the existing bus terminal and additional vacant land.
\nThe officials said the valuable government land, owing to its prime location, offered considerable potential for effective and public-oriented utilisation through proper planning.
\nMr Samiullah Khan said the provincial government was seeking ways to utilise government land more effectively for the benefit of the public. He stressed the need for comprehensive planning for the valuable asset at the important location so that it could provide better public facilities while also contributing to provincial resources.
\nMr Muzammil Aslam said effective utilisation of government assets was an important component of sound financial management. He said the land could be developed through suitable projects that could help strengthen provincial revenues and ensure that the valuable asset was not left underutilised.
\nHe added that modern facilities could be developed on the site, providing better services to citizens while creating new revenue-generating opportunities.
\nThe officials were directed to prepare comprehensive proposals for the effective utilisation of the land. It was also decided to convene a meeting of the Road Transport Board to examine the technical, financial and administrative aspects of the proposals and finalise the way forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
