The Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad celebrated Enkutatash, the Ethiopian New Year, and Hibir Ken (Unity in Diversity Day) with national zeal and fervour under the theme \u201cDiversity: Ethiopia\u2019s Adornment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, parliamentarians, government officials, business leaders, media representatives, civil society members and the Ethiopian community in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Masood Malik attended the ceremony as chief guest, while Prime Minister\u2019s Advisor and National Coordinator on Tourism Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan and Additional Secretary (Africa) Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan were guests of honour.
\nAmbassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan Dr Oumer Hussien Oba welcomed the guests and extended warm New Year greetings to the gathering.
\nHighlighting the significance of Enkutatash, the ambassador said the festival coincides with the blooming of the Adey Abeba flower and carries a message of hope, renewal and a brighter future. He noted Ethiopia\u2019s distinctive historical and cultural identity, including its Ge\u2019ez calendar and alphabet.
\nDr Oba said the spirit of the Ethiopian New Year also reflected the growing relationship between Ethiopia and Pakistan, which, he said, had been strengthened by Pakistan\u2019s Look Africa and Engage Africa policies as well as cooperation in economic and environmental fields.
\nThe ambassador thanked Dr Musadik Malik for his continued support and formally invited Pakistan to support Ethiopia\u2019s hosting of COP32 in Addis Ababa in 2027. He called for enhanced climate cooperation between developing countries and greater collective efforts to address challenges facing the Global South.
\nDr Oba also paid tribute to Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan on his retirement, appreciating his contribution to strengthening Pakistan-Africa and Ethiopia-Pakistan relations and wishing him success in his future endeavours.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Dr Musadik Malik conveyed warm greetings to the Ethiopian people on the New Year and praised Ethiopia\u2019s economic development and green transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed.
\nRecalling his participation in Ethiopian New Year celebrations during his stay in Chicago, the minister described the Ethiopian people as warm and welcoming and said the country\u2019s culture was vibrant and rich.
\nSardar Yasir Ilyas Khan appreciated the steady growth in bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan and reiterated his commitment to further strengthening cooperation between the two countries in tourism and other sectors.
\nThe celebrations provided an opportunity for participants to experience Ethiopian cultural traditions while reaffirming the importance of diversity, unity and closer people-to-people ties between Ethiopia and Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
