\nA large number of women staged a protest in Madyan on Friday against the alleged sexual assault and killing of a nine-year-old girl, demanding the strictest punishment for the accused.
\nThe protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans, blocked the main road linking Madyan with Bahrain and Kalam for several hours, disrupting traffic in the area.
\nA large number of men also joined the protest and called for severe punishment for the suspect in accordance with the law.
\nDistrict Police Officer (DPO) Swat Mushtaq Ahmed reached the site and held talks with the protesters. The demonstrators apprised him of their concerns and demands, which he heard in detail.
\nFollowing assurances from the police regarding the investigation, the protesters expressed satisfaction and reopened the road for traffic before dispersing peacefully.
\nTalking to this correspondent, the DPO said the investigation into the incident was being conducted on modern lines.
