\nUS President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that Tehran \u201cwants to make a deal\u201d to end the war, forecasting a rapid decline in domestic fuel costs once hostilities ceased.
\n\u201cLook, it could end before the midterms, but it\u2019ll end after the midterms,\u201d Trump told reporters in Ireland, where he attended the Amgen Irish Open golf tournament hosted at his Trump International Golf Links resort.
\nHe added that gasoline prices were \u201cgoing to drop like a rock\u201d following the conclusion of the hostilities. US gasoline prices averaged $4.31 a gallon on Sunday, up from $4.07 a month earlier and $3.19 a year ago, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
\nTrump noted that Iranian officials were \u201ccalling constantly\u201d to secure an agreement, though he cautioned that his administration would only accept a favourable settlement, warning: \u201cI\u2019m not going to make a deal that\u2019s no good.\u201d
\nSeparately, Trump also said he did not \u201ccare\u201d about a proposed meeting between Iran and Gulf states to discuss the future of the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing US conflict with Tehran, Al Jazeera reported.
\n\u201cI don\u2019t care. That\u2019s up to them. If they are happy, that\u2019s fine.\u201d Trump told reporters at his golf resort in Doonbeg during a visit to Ireland when asked about the planned meeting in Oman on Monday.
\nReopening of Strait of Hormuz conditional on US return to Islamabad MoU: Iran\u2019s Araghchi
\nIranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is conditional on the United States returning to its commitments under the Islamabad MoU, Press TV reported on Sunday.
\nAccording to the post on X, Araghchi, speaking to The New Arab, said, \u201cTomorrow\u2019s meeting in Oman will focus on establishing a new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz.\u201d
\nHe further added that we will provide participating countries with details of the agreement with Oman and maps related to the new route and stressed that the agreement with Oman \u201cdoes not in any way mean that the Strait of Hormuz is being reopened.\u201d
\n\u201cIran\u2019s condition for reopening the Strait of Hormuz is for the US to return to its commitments under the Islamabad MoU,\u201d he added. Iran believes that \u201censuring the security and stability of the region is solely the responsibility of regional countries\u201d, Araghchi said.
