Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is once again facing a serious law and order crisis that has raised numerous concerns about the lives of its people, business activities, and future prospects. The deteriorating situation has prompted the federal government to consider extraordinary measures, including governor\u2019s rule and emergency provisions. Terrorist attacks, the martyrdom of security personnel, growing fear among civilians, and challenges to the writ of the state indicate that the situation has become far more serious than an ordinary political dispute. When people begin to feel unsafe in their homes, markets, educational institutions, and on public roads, it becomes the government\u2019s foremost responsibility to rise above political considerations and take effective and decisive measures to protect them.
\nIn the context of the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the imposition of governor\u2019s rule is not merely a constitutional or political issue; it is directly connected to the state\u2019s responsibility, public safety, and government performance. The matter deserves an open-minded and serious discussion. In my view, criticism for the sake of criticism is not a constructive approach. If a provincial government repeatedly appears unable to control a worsening security situation, counterterrorism measures fail to produce the desired results, and public confidence in state institutions begins to erode, the federal government must seriously examine all available constitutional options and administrative powers. In my opinion, democracy also permits such measures within the framework of the Constitution. However, an extraordinary step such as governor\u2019s rule must not be justified merely by political differences. It must be based on concrete evidence, constitutional requirements, and genuine administrative necessity. In the case of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the deteriorating security situation and the concerns surrounding the provincial government\u2019s performance have raised serious questions about its ability to fulfil its responsibilities. The importance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is well known. The province holds exceptional significance for Pakistan\u2019s geographical security, the protection of its western borders, and the country\u2019s overall stability. Its border with Afghanistan, difficult mountainous terrain, and the potential movement of terrorist groups make security challenges even more complex. Under these circumstances, close coordination and a joint strategy among the provincial government, federal government, police, civil administration, and security institutions are essential. If coordination among these institutions weakens, terrorist elements may find opportunities to pursue their nefarious objectives. Critics of the previous provincial government have argued that its approach at times obstructed or complicated security operations against terrorist groups.
\nThe people elect governments to resolve their problems, maintain peace, and provide opportunities for employment and education. If government priorities become confined to political rhetoric, accusations, and struggles for power, public frustration is inevitable. On a national issue as serious as terrorism, political parties should adopt a common strategy rather than attempt to undermine one another. Differences of opinion are an essential feature of democracy, but political disagreements must never be allowed to overshadow the protection of citizens\u2019 lives and property.
\nThe people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have made immense sacrifices in the war against terrorism. Thousands of families have lost their loved ones, many people have been forced to abandon their homes, and business and educational activities have suffered severe damage. These sacrifices cannot be dismissed as mere statistics. The state has a responsibility to support affected families, ensure the rehabilitation of displaced people, and prioritise education, healthcare, employment, and basic facilities in areas where terrorism has disrupted everyday life.
\nIt must also be remembered that the fight against terrorism is not limited to operations against armed militants. It also involves addressing the underlying conditions that extremist elements exploit. Educational and employment opportunities for young people, equal application of the law, resolution of legitimate local grievances, and public confidence in state institutions are the foundations of lasting peace. In areas that have endured prolonged insecurity, security measures must go hand in hand with reconstruction, development, and social progress.
\nAmong the internal and external challenges Pakistan is facing today, national unity and institutional coordination have become more important than ever. It would be incorrect to regard instability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as merely a provincial issue, because its consequences extend to the national economy, internal security, and overall stability of the country. The federal and provincial governments must rise above political differences and adopt a strategy that ensures the elimination of terrorism, the protection of citizens, and the restoration of the state\u2019s authority.
\nThe need of the hour is to make the restoration of peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a foremost national priority. Decisive action must be taken against terrorists in accordance with the law, security institutions must be provided with the necessary resources, the police force must be strengthened, and the performance of the provincial administration must be improved through effective oversight and accountability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
