\nMember Governor\u2019s Advisory Council has said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has the potential to be Pakistan\u2019s energy superpower with vast hydro and hydrocarbon potential.
\nHe said that energy and development were intimately linked, with a direct correlation between per capita income and energy consumption. As countries become wealthier, they consume more energy per person, he said.
\n\u201c KP produces around 45 per cent of Pakistan\u2019s crude oil and contributes significantly to the country\u2019s natural gas supply,\u201d he added.
\nHowever, he regretted that over the last more than a decade, the province had failed to translate its gas resources into sustained growth in local gas use and industrial activity.
\nThe province had regressed in this respect, with consumption in the province down by almost 37pc since 2014.
\nMr Khan noted that supply had also dropped slightly in this time, but there had been several promising new finds.
\nThe southern districts of KP provide more than 150 MMCFD of vital natural gas that cooks meals, heats homes and powers industry in other parts of Pakistan.
\nHe stressed that the people of the province and particularly the producing districts must see tangible benefits through better services, local employment and enterprise opportunities from the resources Allah has blessed them with.
