\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Adviser on Auqaf, Religious and Minority Affairs Maulana Tayyab Qureshi has announced plans to introduce a laptop; scheme for madrassa students, saying religious seminaries must embrace modern technology and contemporary knowledge to prepare students for emerging challenges.
\nHe was addressing a seminar titled \u201cThe Role of Madaris in a Changing World\u201d, organised by Jamiat Talaba Arabia in Peshawar. The event was attended by Mufti Muhammad Ismail, Jamiat Talaba Arabia Nazim-e-Aala Ijaz-ul-Haq, Mufti Muhammad Askar and a large number of students. Qureshi said religious scholars and madrassas had played a significant role in the creation and defence of Pakistan, adding that their contribution to society could not be overlooked. However, he stressed that madrassa students also needed access to modern education, technology and contemporary disciplines to broaden their skills and opportunities.
\nHe said all madrassa education boards would be included in the proposed laptop scheme to ensure that students of religious seminaries could benefit from technological advancements and develop skills relevant to the needs of the modern era.
\nThe adviser acknowledged that terrorism remained a serious challenge in KP, stressing that overcoming the menace required national unity, collective efforts and mutual cooperation. He said sustainable development was impossible without peace and urged all segments of society to contribute towards establishing lasting peace in the province.
\nQureshi said the provincial government would take practical measures to promote interfaith and inter-sectarian harmony, with the aim of making Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a model of peaceful coexistence. He added that comprehensive steps would also be taken to address the problems faced by madrassas and mosques and improve their functioning.
\nEmphasising the importance of religious education, he said madrassas were vital centres of learning and character building. At the same time, he stressed the need to move beyond outdated approaches and equip students with knowledge of modern disciplines so they could communicate effectively and respond to contemporary challenges.
\nHe said the Holy Quran provided fundamental guidance for Muslims and that its teachings could help society progress through knowledge, research, character building and social reform. He called for aligning madrassa education with contemporary requirements, nurturing students\u2019 abilities and providing them with opportunities to excel in diverse fields.
\nThe adviser reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to improving madrassas and mosques and enhancing the educational and professional capabilities of their students. Mufti Muhammad Ismail, Mufti Muhammad Askar, Jamiat Talaba Arabia Nazim-e-Aala Ijaz-ul-Haq and other speakers also addressed the seminar, highlighting the role of religious seminaries in a changing world.
