\nWater and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) in collaboration with Irrigation and Police departments, district administration and Peshawar Development Authority has decided to divert lines throwing sewerage water in canals.
\nBesides, steps would be taken to check throwing of waste in canals. To control littering and dumping of waste on roads, in streets, drains, WSSP decided to get approval for constitution of \u2018Municipal Police Squad\u2019 from Board of Directors, said a press release issued here Thursday.
\nThese decisions were taken at a meeting held here with Chief Executive Officer WSSP Syed Zafar Ali Shah in the chair wherein general managers and zonal managers participated.
\nIn this regard, commercial sewerage lines dropping into canals would be identified and then notices would be issued to the owners to stop throwing sewerage water in the canals.
\nIt was decided to take action under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Canal and Drainage Act against those found guilty.
\nThe chief executive directed them to prepare a list of such industrial and commercial entities including wedding halls, car wash centers and plazas that throw sewerage water in canals.
\nHe directed them to identify localities where waste was thrown in canals, prepare a report and share it with Irrigation Department.
\nHe also asked them to issue notices to the owners for diverting their lines away from the canals.
\nZafar Ali Shah asked the managers to direct municipal inspectors and supervisors to control the practice in their respective jurisdictions and warned them of strict disciplinary action for showing negligence in this regard.
\nThey zonal managers were tasked to measure length of drains and canals in their zones and devise cleanliness schedule in light of the length.
\n\u201cLaunch an awareness campaign in localities on sides of canals apart from door-to-door waste collection to sensitise the inhabitants of the harms of polluting canals,\u201d he directed the managers.
\nHe directed Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting wing of WSSP to prepare a proposal for diverting the sewerage lines from the canals within a week.
\nThe chief executive along with officials of Irrigation and PDA officials paid a visit of Warsak Gravity Canal and reviewed cleanliness of canals. He directed the officials to take action against littering and throwing waste in canal.
\nA committee will also be constituted comprising of representatives of WSSP, Irrigation and PDA that will carry out a survey for diverting of lines from canals. The committee will present its recommendations in light of the survey.
\nBesides, small waste bins would be placed in each locality of Faqirabad, Gulbahar, Tehkal and University Road.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
