Islamabad(PR): Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination on Wednesday became the first federal Ministry to receive ISO 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management system. Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar received the ISO certification in a ceremony held here today. She congratulated officers and staff of the Ministry on achieving this landmark through hard work, dedication and commitment.
\nSpeaking on the occasion the Minster said this was a momentous occasion as the reform process set in motion as soon as the incumbent Government took office is showing tangible results. It is a matter of pride for her Ministry and the dedicated team to have set an example in terms of professionalism, transparency and good governance which can be emulated by others, said the Minister.
\nThe Minister added she has always emphasized that we can only deliver if our systems are strengthened and in line with internationally recognized best practices. ISO certification of Ministry of National Health Services and earlier of vaccine storage supplies under the Ministry bears testimony to our efforts to strive for excellence at par with international standards.
\nShe said there is great potential in our people. The need is to harness that potential and provide an environment where there is recognition of performance and strict accountability.
\nSecretary Health Muhammad Ayub Shaikh said the initiative to obtain ISO certification was taken to transform the management system as per international best practices for improving governance and transparency. He further added that the certification will establish documented standard operating procedure for all functions of the Ministry, which is going to make the system more efficient and productive.
\nHe said the Ministry will continue to improve the Quality Management System to maintain the ISO standards which was critically important to good governance and improved delivery.
\nDr. Assad Haeez Director General Health shared that the Ministry will establish a Quality Assurance Cell for continuity and sustainability of the certification process. He said together 38 officers of the Ministry have been trained as Quality Assurance Coordinators to implement the Quality Management system as per requirements of ISO 9001:2015 standard. The process of establishing a Quality Management system was initiated in October, 2015 with the support of USAID through their Grantee JSI Research & Training Institute Inc. USA, Institute of Occupational Safety Health and Environment to provide technical assistance.
\nFocal person for establishing the Quality Management System in the Ministry said that the ISO 9001: 2015 is the latest version of the ISO which is aimed at introducing transparency in the procedures and enhancing efficiency.
