KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met Karachi’s mayor Waseem Akhtar on Wednesday to discuss matters pertaining to the city.
\nSyed Murad Ali Shah said that service to the people of Karachi was above politics and party affiliations.
\n“This is my city as it belongs to other citizens and we all have to make it neat, clean and beautiful,” he said.
\nWaseem Akhtar called on him along with Local Government minister Jam Khan Shoro at the CM House. Deputy Mayor Mr Vohra was also present during the meeting.
\nHe said that there were lot of issues in the city such as roads being dilapidated, gutter lines are either broken or chocked, garbage lifting service is very poor and heaps of garbage have accumulated here and there.
\n“This I know because I keep visiting the city off and on to inspect the quality and pace of on-going development works under the umbrella of Rs10 billion Karachi package,” he said.
\nKarachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar said that apart from these issues there were the problems of fire tenders, snorkels and the poor conditions of parks in the city.
\n“I have worked out a plan to succeed 100 days of cleanliness in which small repair and maintenance works of roads, drainage and water supply lines would be under taken if you (CM) extend a helping hand,\u201d he said.
\nOn this the chief minister said that he was always ready to support him.
\n“There is no issue of funds, I would arrange funds for this city,” he assured the mayor.
\nThe chief minister directed Local Government minister Jam Khan Shoro to sit together with the Mayor and work out a plan to rehabilitate roads, water supply lines, an improve drainage system and purchase fire tenders and develop mechanism to lift back log of the garbage before the private firms start lifting it from the DMCs’ areas.
\nIt was decided to place parks which were in poor condition under the ‘Adopt a Park’ program, which would seek to restore them in better conditions. They also discussed and decided to award the maintenance contracts of snorkels to their concerned companies.
\nThe meeting decided to remove encroachments along the roads and bulldoze illegal constructions in different localities for which Sindh government would provide Anti-Encroachment Force to the Mayor Karachi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
