\nFour members of a Muslim family have been injured after a mob of at least 10 unidentified people attacked them in Aligarh city of Uttar Pradesh state, Indian media reported on Monday.
\nThe attack took place because of the Muslim family\u2019s religious identity at the platform of the Aligarh railway station on Sunday afternoon, The Hindu newspaper said in a report.
\nAccording to a case registered by the police, two men and two women belonging to the family were injured, with one person sustaining a head injury after being hit with a stone. The injured were shifted to the hospital following the incident.
\n\u201cThe family had come for the treatment of their children at JN Medical College,\u201d said Muqarram Ali, a relative at whose house the family was supposed to stay.
\n\u201cDuring the attack, the daughter fainted on the platform,\u201d he said, claiming that the attackers came from outside and were not travelling on the train. \u201cThey didn\u2019t board the train either. They came, targeted the family whose women were wearing burqas, and ran away when the police chased them.\u201d
\nMuqarram Ali also claimed that the attackers could have been arrested if the police had not responded late.
\nThe attack is the latest in series of growing attacks on the minority Muslim community in Hindu-majority India, where religious intolerance has seen a rise in recent years.
\nSince 2014 when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, Muslim organisations have complained about Muslims coming under attack amid a resurgence in right-wing Hindu activism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
