\nBangladesh Twenty20 team Chattogram Challengers Thursday called for action against West Indies star Chris Gayle if he fails to show for an upcoming tournament, after he said he was taking a break from cricket.
\nGayle was picked by the Challengers to play in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) from December 11.
\nBut he said after departing South Africa\u2019s Mzansi Super League on Monday \u2014 following a pitiful campaign for Jozi Stars \u2014 that he was surprised his name had been included in the squad, adding that he planned to \u201ctake a break\u201d from the sport.
\n\u201cI am not going to the Big Bash (Australia\u2019s T20 league). I\u2019m not sure what cricket will come up, I don\u2019t even know how my name reached the BPL, but I have been drafted in a team and I don\u2019t even know how that happened,\u201d he told ESPNcricinfo.<\/p>\n
Challengers team director Jalal Yunus said his team had held negotiations with Gayle\u2019s agent after the former West Indies captain was picked.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis agent confirmed Chris was aware about it,\u201d Yunus said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow if he does not come, we will seek a player outside the draft. But I feel (Bangladesh Cricket Board) BCB should take action in such cases to keep discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that the team had not heard from Gayle for several days ahead of his comments on Monday.<\/p>\n
Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters Wednesday they checked the drafting process and found no fault with Gayle\u2019s inclusion.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe maintain all the standard procedures when any national cricketer\u2019s name came for the players\u00b4 draft,\u201d Nizamuddin said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEither a player or his agent can show his interest and put the name in the list.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI have checked the process and everything was done according to a standard process.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gayle played in several editions of the BPL and is the tournament\u2019s highest run scorer among foreign players with 1,338 runs.<\/p>\n
