PESHAWAR
At least 14 children were among 17 people who lost their lives in rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since March 25, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said.
The PDMA said the casualties were caused mainly by the collapse of roofs and walls of houses during intermittent rains in various parts of the province.
Among the deceased were 14 children, one man and two women, while the injured included 25 men, five women and 26 children, the report added.
It further stated that at least 11 houses were partially damaged due to the downpours.
The incidents were reported from multiple districts, including Bannu, Abbottabad, Kohat, Upper Dir, Bajaur, Battagram and North Waziristan.
According to the authority, rescue and relief operations are underway, with PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations and other relevant agencies maintaining close coordination.
The PDMA has directed the administrations of affected districts to expedite relief efforts and ensure the immediate provision of assistance and materials to victims. Special instructions have been issued for Bannu, identified as the most affected district, to prioritise support for affected families.
Meanwhile, intermittent rains are expected to continue in different districts until Tuesday. The PDMA has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from visiting sensitive tourist areas, and follow official advisories.
The authority’s Emergency Operation Centre remains fully operational, and citizens can contact the toll-free helpline 1700 for information, assistance, or to report emergencies, a PDMA spokesperson said.
