17 arrested in crackdown against criminal gangs in Peshawar

Police claimed to have arrested 17 suspects of four different criminal gangs operating in the provincial capital and recovered cash and looted cash from thier possessions, said a handout.
According to details, SSP Operation Lieutenant Commander (Retd) Kashif Aftab Abbasi had formed a special team headed by SP Rural Saleem Abbas Kalachi to track down the active gangs in the city.
A special team comprising DSP Chamkani Luqman, SDPO Regi Gohar Khan, DSP Zahid Alam, SHO Khazana Police Station Ijaz Khan, SHO Shahpur Imranuddin and SHO Regi Riaz Khan.
A total of 17 accused including Shakir, Shehzad, Naveed, Zulfiqar, Zarif, Bilal, Zakir, Zahid, Abdul Rahim, Salman and Amin have been arrested after tracking down four dangerous robbers and dacoits operating in the division and other areas of the city.
All the accused were involved in snatching mobile phones, cash from the citizens at gunpoint.
A cop, Imran, deputed at Police Station Gharbi was also among the arrested suspects.
He was also allegedly involved in snatching mobile phones.
He has confessed to hundreds of incidents of mobiles phones snatching.
Appreciating the recent operation, SSP Operations has announced cash prizes and certificates of appreciation for SP Rural.
He clarified that in order to clean from crimes anti-social elements Crackdown has been launched against the elements.
