As many as 2,106 posts reserved for minorities under the five per cent employment quota remain vacant in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials told a meeting of the One-Man Commission on minority rights on Wednesday.
The meeting, chaired by Commission Chairman Dr Muhammad Shoaib Suddle at the Civil Secretariat, reviewed implementation of Supreme Court directives concerning the constitutional and legal rights of the minority community in the province, said a handout.
According to the statement, the officials said 3,380 posts had been earmarked for minorities across the province under the five per cent quota, of which 1,282 had so far been filled by eligible candidates.
Dr Suddle directed the authorities to facilitate minority candidates and explore alternative options for filling vacant positions where qualified candidates were not available. He also called for the establishment of a capacity-building academy for minority youth to equip them with skills and improve their access to employment opportunities.
The chairman appreciated the performance of the KP government in implementing the rights of minorities and said the province had made considerable progress in complying with directives of the superior judiciary.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the minority community, administrative secretaries and police officials from across the province.
Regarding the two per cent quota for minority students in public sector universities, officials of the Higher Education Department informed the commission that a meeting had been held with representatives of all universities three days earlier. The universities, they said, had assured full compliance with the quota in upcoming admissions.
The meeting also reviewed security arrangements at Gurdwara Sara Ghari Singh Sabha in Hangu. Officials said security had already been provided to the gurdwara and further measures would be taken after completion of its registration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Auqaf Department.
Dr Suddle directed the relevant authorities to extend full cooperation in facilitating the registration process.
The commission also decided to constitute a committee headed by Dr Suddle to formulate clear policy guidelines regarding the posting and transfer of minority employees serving in educational and other institutions.
