Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would host International Women and Men Badminton Championship in November this year, Secretary Sports KP Abid Majeed said this during the opening ceremony of the 58th National Women and Men Badminton Championship, which got under at state-of-the-art Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex, Charsadda.
Talking to media men, a jubilant Abid Majeed said this. He said Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has approved the proposal put in by Secretary Pakistan Badminton Federation Wajid Ali Chaudry wherein 25 teams of the world would take part.
“We have enough time but we have already started our preparations for hosting the international event in November this year and have given a go ahead signal to Secretary Pakistan Badminton Federation, who is also Chairman Badminton Development in Asia,” Abid Majeed said.
He said the Chief Minister is very kind and keen for the promotion of sports in the province that is why he in one go approved the International Badminton event in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex has enough facilities of holding the International event wherein it has five indoor international standard courts.
He said Chief Minister KP Mahmood Khan also directed him to announce a cash incentive for the position holders of the recently concluded National Junior Badminton Championship. He said on behalf of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced Rs. 100,000 for the winners of the National Junior Badminton Championship Umer Jhanghir, Rs. 50,000 each for the silver medalists of the doubles event and Rs. 50,000 for girls bronze medalists.
Earlier, Secretary Sports Abid Majid formally inaugurated the 58th National Badminton Women and Men Championship in a colourful opening ceremony. Secretary PBF Wajid Ali Chaudry, President KP Badminton Association Zafar Ali Khan, DG Sports KP Asfandyar Khan Khattak, DSO Peshawar and Charsadda Tehseen Ullah Khan, Administrator Shah Faisal, players and officials were also present.
Briefing the chief guest, Wajid Ali Chaudry lauded the efforts put in by the District Sport Officer for the smooth conduct of the National Junior and now National Senior Women and Men Championship.
He informed that it is a national ranking event and out of which the national team would be announced for the international outings.
More than 300 male and female players from across the country competed in men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles women’s doubles, mixed doubles and team events categories.
Teams from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan WAPDA, Pakistan Army, HEC, National Bank, Sui Gas, Pakistan Railways and Pakistan Police are taking part in the Senior Championship. He thanked Secretary General Pakistan Badminton Federation for bringing the international badminton championship to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

2nd Single: Yasmeen Shahzadi (Islamabad) beat Hadiya Ashfaq (HEC) by 21-12, 19-21, 21-19
2nd Double: Khadija & Hadia (Hec) got walk over against Dina & Manahil (Islamabad)

1st Single: Rosheen Ejaz (Sindh) beat Zahra (Balochistan) by 21-5, 21-11
