Pak will continue to support Kashmiris: Abdul Basit

New Delhi(Online): High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit has said that Pakistan will continue extending its full diplomatic, political and moral support to the valiant people of Jammu and Kashmir till they get their right to self determination.
Speaking on the occasion of 69th Independence Day of Pakistan at the Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi, the High Commissioner highlighted the significance of the independence movement and the huge sacrifices rendered by “our forefathers to realize their dream, namely, Pakistan”, said a press release issued here on Sunday.
He emphasized that Pakistan was a blessing and that it was destined to become a bastion of peace and prosperity and the people of Pakistan were united to overcome the internal and external challenges and thwart all conspiracies aimed at destabilizing Pakistan.
On Pakistan and India relations, Basit said Pakistan had always desired to have cooperative relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality and peaceful resolution of the bilateral disputes.
He stressed neither the political aspiration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir could be suppressed nor could anyone belittle their legitimate struggle and enormous sacrifices. It was incumbent upon the international community to ensure implementation of the relevant UN resolutions to settle the long-standing Jammu & Kashmir dispute.
Students of the Pakistan High Commission School presented national songs and tableaus. Ms. Summiya Basit, wife of the High Commissioner, gave away prizes and gifts to the teachers and children of the school.
Earlier, Syed Haider Shah, Deputy High Commissioner read out the Independence Day messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
