The Capital City Police on Thursday seized a container loaded with firecrackers and arrested five accused in Chamkani area in the provincial capital, an official said.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Tahir Khan told the reporters that the action was carried out after receiving the information that alleged robbers had stolen a container loaded with some items from a South Zone in Karachi in Sindh and can enter Khyber Pakhtunkhwa any time.
Acting on the information, the CCPO formed a special police team in the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Coordination, Muhammad Qasim Khan and comprising of Deputy Superintendent of Police Chamkani Abdul Salam Khalid, SHO Chamkani Humayun Khan and other police officials during the action.
DSP Abdul Salam Khalid said the reporters the police established a checkpoint on motorway and started search vehicles. He said the police during the search singled a container to stop and recovered firecrackers from the container worth millions of rupees.
DSP said the police also arrested five accused including driver Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Akhtar, Muhammad Yousaf, Muhammad Numan and Abdul Razzaq.
The CCPO also announced cash and commending certificates for cops for successful action.
