Awami National Party (ANP) provincial president has announced a peaceful protest demonstration against the continued closure of Pak-Afghan border on March 10.
Aimal Wali Khan said that the closure of the border is a threat to businesses on both sides of the divide as it has bankrupted businesses, creating a shortage of industrial raw material and contributing to food insecurity.
In a statement issued today, he said that Pak-Afghan border has suffered the livelihood of the Pakhtuns of Pakistan and Afghanistan depends on trade between the two countries.
The closure of trade routes has caused great economic loss to both the countries, adding that closure of the two countries has caused difficulties and problems for the people of the two countries he added. The opening of trade routes is essential to ensure friendly and fraternal relations between the two countries.
He said the ANP wanted to promote relations with all neighboring countries in an atmosphere of trust, tolerance and brotherhood, adding that the opening of trade routes would provide employment, education and trade opportunities to Pakhtuns and Pakhtunkhwa’s global trade.
It will become a market, help eradicate terrorism and extremist thinking in the region, and pave the way for lasting peace he added. Aimal Wali Khan further said that the closure of trade routes has weakened the country and the people economically.
The provincial president said that it is the need of the hour and the responsibility of both the countries to facilitate trade routes in the wider interest of the nation.
