Khyber District clinched the overall trophy of Integrated District Sports Festival organized by Directorate Sports merged areas at different venues across tribal areas here on Wednesday.
Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Khalid Iqbal was the chief guest on this occasion. Director Sports Merged Area Pir Abdullah Shah was the chief guest on this occasion. Khyber District won first position in 9 events, Bajaur got first position in three Games, North Waziristan took third position by recording second position in two different Games out of the 17 disciplines part of the Tribal Games wherein 3000 athletes took part.
AD Ashfaq Ahmed, Coaches Imran Ullah, Amir Iqbal, Admin Officer Peshawar Sports Complex Syed Jaffer Shah and other important personalities were present. During the week-long festival, 3000 athletes from the merged districts and sub-divisions participated in various games.
Speaking on this occasion, Director General Sports KP Khalid Khan said, a comprehensive plan will be prepared for men’s and women’s sports in the province and integrated districts. He said people associated with sports will feel better in the days to come. Khalid Khan said that the sports department is the busiest institution where one has to work day and night. There is a lot of work done in sports as compared to other institutions and inshallah more work needs to be done.
“We will try our best to attract more youth toward healthy sports activities. He said that the best players would be provided facilities at the provincial, national and international levels so that their performance in international competitions would be noticeable.
He said, sports activities would be patronage, because these young people are the better future of this country. “Our first responsibility is to provide them with opportunities to move forward,” he said. “Work is being done at grassroots level for sports in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added.
Completion of work on the ongoing sports infrastructure would be completed in time and with such facilities it would help in revolutionising the sports sector, Khalid Khan said, adding that equal attention will be paid to male and female athletes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the Women U21 games will be held in the best possible manner, while sports in the integrated tribal districts will be organized so that the tribal youth could be involved in healthy sports activities. He vowed to hold Tribal Games in Islamabad soon for the players of the tribal districts, which are expected to give no boom to the sports sector in tribal districts as well.
Khyber won first in Judo, Khurram got second in Judo, Khyber won first in Karate, second in Gymnastics, Bajaur won second in Karate, Khyber won first in Boxing, Kohat Sub-Division and South Waziristan won second in Boxing, Khyber won Hockey. South Waziristan second, basketball Khyber first, Bajaur second, Khyber first in table tennis, Peshawar second in sub-division, Khyber first in athletics, Bajaur second, Bajaur first in bodybuilding, Khyber second, Bajaur first in weightlifting, Khyber second, South Waziristan first in Taekwondo, Bajaur second, Mohmand first in Kabaddi, South Waziristan second, North Waziristan first in volleyball, Mohmand got second position, Bajaur first in badminton, North Waziristan second, Wushu South Waziristan came first, Bajaur second, North Waziristan first and Khyber second in football, Khyber first and Bajaur second in cricket.
