THATTA
Around 35 cattle heads including cows, buffalos, sheep, and goats came under the attack of a rabid wolf in coastal village Shahpur of district Thatta here on Wednesday morning leaving 9 of them critically injured.
A herd of cattle heads was grazing in farmland when a wild wolf appeared all of sudden and attacked the livestock. The shepherd upon seeing the wolf preferred to save his life rather than offer any resistance.
Armed with sticks and axes the villagers started the search for the wolf that had fled after attacking and injuring the livestock but they were unsuccessful in nabbing it till the filling of this report.
The affected cattle breeders told local reporters that livestock had been badly affected following the presence of such wild beasts in the area adding that livestock was one of the major sources of income for the population of the coastal region but neither the wildlife department nor the livestock department was taking concrete steps to curb the menace.
“Similar incidents have taken place in the past causing substantial financial loss to us”; held Ghulam Nabi, a local breeder. adding that none of the wildlife department officials had ever taken notice of such incidents.
They demanded the Sindh Government for the administration of the anti-rabies vaccine to the affected cattle heads to save the local human population that consumes their milk and other dairy products made from that milk.
