A delegation led by Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman of Ayub Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad called on Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Parvez Elahi at his residence here.
The delegation included Dr. Khunsa Khakwani, Dr. Sadaf Shamim and Arsalan Abbas. The delegation apprised the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly of their concerns regarding the unwarranted privatization of the Institute.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that Pakistan’s agricultural research institutes will not be allowed to be privatized, the government has a responsibility to make up for the lack of research funds. He said that this institution is being privatized in the name of transformation, if there is any conspiracy against this institution then we will not allow it to succeed.
He said that Ayub Agricultural Research Institute was introducing about 200 different types of seeds including wheat, rice, pulses and cotton in Pakistan.
Dr Sadaf Shamim thanked the Speaker Punjab Assembly for assuring the delegation of the solution of the problems and said that the people of the country are already on the streets in search of bread and employment.
90% of the area of Ayub Agricultural Research Institute is reserved for research which the land mafia wants to occupy through privatization.
