PTI asks PEMRA to take notice of Maryam Nawaz’s alleged audiotape

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to take notice of alleged audiotape of PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz and former Information Minister Parvez Rashid. In a letter written to Chairman of the Authority, PTI leader Alia Hamza has demanded stern action against the PML-N vice president and former information minister. An alleged audiotape of Maryam Nawaz went viral Tuesday in which she could be heard talking to her party’s senior leader Parvez Rashid. The two were talking about alleged biasness of analyst panel of a private television’s talk show. In the alleged audio, Parvez Rashid and Maryam Nawaz could be heard allegedly talking about the views of senior journalists Hassan Nisar, Irshad Bhatti and Mazhar Abbas. They allegedly complained about journalists’ criticism on PML-N. In the letter written to Chairman PEMRA, PTI’s parliamentary secretary Alia Hamza said that she had already approached Chairman of the media watch-dog twice through letters, but in vain. She wrote that Maryam’s Nawaz’s alleged audio tape raise serious questions about the freedom and independence of media. She wrote that Maryam Nawaz was accusing senior journalists Hassan Nisar and Irshad Bhatti and inappropriate comments were also made about senior journalists in the audiotape. Online
