PESHAWAR
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority continued its crackdown on adulterators across the province on Wednesday and sealed an unhealthy juice factory in Gali-Bagh area of Mardan and recovered 5,000 liters of juices. The authority said that the unit was using sugars and harmful chemicals in the preparation of the juice. The operation was carried out on the instructions of Director General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority Shah Rukh Ali Khan, during which a large consignment of unhealthy juice was seized. Substandard juices were being produced in dirty drums in the unit, while the hygiene situation was also found to be very poor.
The unit after making unhealthy juices would supply them to the local market.
During the operation, packaged juices were confiscated, while juices stored in drums were destroyed on the spot.
According to the Food Safety Authority, packets of juice were supplied to the market for sale to children, leading to the spread of various diseases.
During the operation, a large quantity of pecan material was recovered and packing machines were confiscated.
According to the Food Safety Authority, a case will be registered against those involved in the production of unhealthy juices.
