Annual urs of Hazrat Ghulam Shah that got underway some 30 kilometers from Sujawal on Sunday brings Eid-like jubilations to the local communities residing around the shrine. Hundreds of thousands of disciples including a large number of women and children had already started reaching the shrine to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the Urs.
The disciples of Hazrat Ghulam Shah hailing from different communities dancing on the drum beats and blaring flutes arrive at the shrine to hurl the commencement of the Urs. “ Disciples and followers of Baba Ghulam Shah voluntarily donate cattle and other things on the occasion of the urs with the hope of getting their wishes accepted,” said Muhammad Ramazan Jatt the custodian of the shrine.
He further said that; The Sufi saint spread the message of peace, interfaith harmony, and unity in the region during the 19th century and brought many local communities to the fold of Islam.
The Urs after two Eids brings an opportunity of Jubilation for the local communities that include Jat, Dars, Notiyar, Memon, and others who celebrate this event as a religious festival after the two Eids- Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.
“We eagerly wait the whole year for this day that we believe brings countless blessings to us,” said a disciple Hashim Jat adding that he got a good price for his crop this year and would celebrate the Urs this year with zest.
Muhammad Ismail Jat said that they wanted to enjoy the Urs fully that’s why they saved money the whole year adding that this event was also a convenient source of earning for locals who set up stalls of earthware, sweets, ornaments, toys, and traditional foods.
“Malah Malakaro ‘’ -A competition of local wrestling is of distinct importance in every fair and festival of Sindh. Noted wrestlers-Pahelwans, from across the province had arrived there to take on each other and showcase their skills to earn the appreciation of their fans.
