NA-33 seat was vacated after the death of PTI MNA Khayal Zaman Orakzai

As many as 11 candidates have filed their nomination papers with the returning officer for the by-elections in NA-33 constituency of district Hangu where polling will be held on April 10, 2022.
The NA-33 seat was vacated by the death of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) National Assembly member Khayal Zaman Orakzai, who won the 2018 general election from the constituency.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) preliminary list, a total of 11 candidates have submitted their nomination papers to contest in the election.
Candidates who are in run for the seat of NA-33 include Dr Nadeem Khayal, a PTI ticket holder and son of late Khyal Zaman, Akhunzada Mufti Obaidullah from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Al-Haj Muhammad Farid Mufakkir, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Abid Wazir, Abdul Rafi of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S), Syed Umar Orakzai of Awami National Party (ANP) among those who submitted their nomination papers.
Five more candidates are also in the field to secure the NA 33 seat these including Malik Khalid Naeem, Atiq Ahmed, Yusuf Khan, Mohammad Saeed and Mohammad Tufail also filed their nomination papers for contesting bye elections in constancy NA-33.
As per ECP, the final list of candidates will be published on March 18 while symbols to candidates will be allotted on March 19.
Meanwhile the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has appointed Justice Syed Muhammad Atiq Shah of Peshawar High Court as Appellate Tribunal.
A notification says, “the Election commission of Pakistan is pleased to appoint Hon’ble Mr. Justice Syed Muhammad Atiq Shah Hon’ble Judge Peshawar High Court as Appellate Tribunal for disposal of appeals against the decision of Returning Officer, regarding rejection or acceptance of the nomination papers of candidates for bye-elections from constituency NA-33, Hangu”.
In the meantime, a three-member monitoring team headed by District Election Commissioner Peshawar Syed Zahoor Shah as District Monitoring Officer Hangu has been appointed to monitor election campaigns of candidates as well as political parties and implementation of code of conduct during bye election in NA-33, Hangu.
Assistant Commissioner Hangu Tanveer Ahmed and Assistant District Education Officer Hangu Dost Muhammad will be the members of the district monitoring team as per notification issued by ECP.
