ECP bars PM, CM KP from visiting district Kurram

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has barred Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Mahmood Khan from visiting Parachinar, headquarter of tribal district Kurram, and holding a scheduled public meeting ahead of local government elections.
PM Imran Khan was expected to visit district Kurram on Friday March 18 and address a public meeting on Friday March 18, 2022.
According to a notice issued by the district monitoring officer of ECP Kurram Khushal Zada, public office holders including the PM cannot visit an area where local government elections have been scheduled.
“The Public Office holders including President, Prime Minister, Chairman, Deputy Chairman Senate, Speaker, Deputy Speaker of any Assembly, Federal Minister, Minister of State, Governors, Chief Ministers, Provincial Ministers and Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister, Mayors, Chairman , Nazim, their deputies shall not participate in any manner whatsoever,” said code of elections by ECP.
The Prime Minister Imran Khan along with Chief Minister KP Mahmud Khan has scheduled a one-day visit to Parachinar, the headquarter of tribal district Kurram on Friday.
District monitoring officer Kurram has written a letter to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to abide by election code and cancel their proposed visit. It may be recalled that local elections are being held on March 31, 2022 under the second phase in Kurram tribal district.
