$80m to be spent in health sector with cooperation of WB

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health, Taimur Salim Jhagra Wednesday said that 80 million US dollars would be spent with cooperation of World Bank (WB) in health and education sectors under Human Capital Investment Project.
He was addressing lunching ceremony of the project that was also attended by Provincial Health Minister, Shahram Tarakai, Special Secretary Health, Farooq Jamil, Secretary Education, Mutasim Billah, Project Director, Ahmad Zaib and representatives from country office World Bank.
The minister said that the project would enhance reforms initiatives of health sector, improve efficiency of healthcare commission and Basic Health Units in addition to improvement of facilities for child and mothers.
He informed that project would also help improve productivity and working of Health Foundation and added that the project would impact lives of 40 million people living in KP. He said that Rs. 15 billion would be spent to improve productivity of health sector under the project and its pilot phase would start from Peshawar, Swabi, Haripur and Nowshera districts.
Highlighting efforts of government to improve service delivery to people, Jhagra said that Medical Officer of Basic Health Unit (BHU) and District Health Officer has been given authority to decide financial matters while revamping of more than 250 BHUs has been completed.
He said that efforts of government would facilitate people to get best available medical cover besides reducing burden on secondary and tertiary care hospitals of provincial metropolis.
