Ambassador Ali Jehanghir Siddiqui on Monday presided over a day-long conference of Pakistan’s Consuls General and Commercial Counsellors based in the United States at Pakistan Embassy DC over the weekend.
Matters related to consular facilitation, bilateral trade and investment, and outreach to Pakistani-American community for promoting Pakistan-U.S. relations were discussed.
In his remarks, Ambassador Ali Jehangir Siddiqui highlighted the importance of extending efficient consular services and promoting bilateral trade between Pakistan and the United States. The visiting Consuls General and Head of Consular Affairs at Pakistan Embassy DC briefed the Ambassador on recent improvements brought in consular services. Ambassador Siddiqui applauded the steps taken by the Embassy and the Consulates General, and asked the concerned officers to further improve areas of consular services based on the feedback received from the community. Trade and investment related issues between Pakistan and the United States were discussed at length. Ambassador Siddiqui directed Trade/Commercial representatives to focus on untapped sectors on both sides for enhancing commercial ties between the two countries. It was resolved that a frequency of such interactions would form part of efforts geared to better coordination between the Embassy and Consulates General.
Siddiqui was named the ambassador on May 8 after Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry stepped down. On May 29, the new envoy reached US capital city and took over his new role of ambassadorship a day later.
Though Siddiqui has met various leaders and officials over this time, the meeting with the US president was necessary for the diplomat to carry out his duties and meet notables as the Pakistani ambassador.
Siddiqui is an investment banker by profession and has worked as a special assistant to former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
