WB pledges to provide $15m for KP’s flood-hit schools rehabilitation

The World Bank has pledged to provide $15 million dollars to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to help the province to rehabilitate its schools damaged during the recent flash floods in different districts.
A team of the World Bank in its office at Islamabad on Friday announced this in a meeting with KP’s elementary and secondary education delegation led by Shahram Khan Tarakai.
According to an official handout, Shahram Khan along with an education department delegation held a special meeting with the team of World Bank’s Islamabad Head Office and requested for assistance to rehabilitate the schools damaged in the recent floods across the province.
“The World Bank team promised the delegation to for the provision of $15 million immediate aid under the Human Capital Investment Plan (HCIP) project to schools in flood-affected districts. The statement added that KP’s education minister has issued instructions to concerned officers to start the relief activities as soon as possible.
It added that Shahram Khan has informed the team of the World Bank about the damages caused by the recent flash floods at different districts of the province.
Secretary education KP while sharing various ongoing projects added that the department is taking steps to transform the provincial education system on modern lines for which online media platforms will be fully utilized.
Appreciating the World Bank partnership in different sectors of the province, the education secretary informed that the KP government was taking steps to engage outreach children in the learning process, the provincial education department should adapt modern ways such as YouTube channel, podcast and social media platforms.
The World Bank team agreed with the education department for promoting online learning activities in the province and asked the department to come up with a proposal and action plan for smooth implementation of the project.
