PESHAWAR
Aerial firing killed a youngster resident of Gulbarg in Cantonment area, Police confirmed the incident here on Saturday.
According to detail given by Police one Muhammad Umair, who works as a mobile engineer in Bilor Plaza, Peshawar Saddar area, was hit by an air bullet when he left the shop after day work. The local people rushed Muhammad Umair to local hospital but he succumbed to bullet injury. The death of Muhammad Umair shocked the entire family. Police on this occasion said that Umeer was rushed to the hospital after being shot, but he could not recover.
Police said that aerial firing is a social crime and so far nine youths were reportedly being killed due to recent aerial firing in the area. “We have taken all precautionary measures and Police have increased patrolling but despite many awareness there were aerial firing incidents that killed innocent people including youth, women and children,” a senior official of the Police said.
He said, aerial firing is one of the hated acts our people had for no good reason but expressing joy or impressing others obviously in clumsy ways. For here one commits aerial firing without any hesitation because he doesn’t know where the bullet may ultimately fall or hit, he added.
“We have launched many awareness campaigns for the people but despite all facts that such a wild and irresponsible habit of aerial firing in moments of jubilation or otherwise has claimed many precious lives and aerial firing is thus the worst kind of social crime,” the official informed.
Look it to Muhammad Umair and think of his family, brothers and sister who are being suffered due to such shocking incident. Umair was actually supporting his family with his work as a mobile engineer.
A gallup survey reveals that the accused couldn’t be ascertained in 100% cases of stray bullet killings in Pakistan. Hence it is an ugly outcome of aerial firing again.
The situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is worsening due to the tribal nature of its society wherein weapons are considered ornament or even part and parcel of menfolk in routine life.
Aerial firing is thus common in such a society, especially when the majority of the people are illiterate and ignorant of the fatal impacts of such an action. They do it as they don’t know where the shooting bullet will go or hit but mingle in the air.
The growing population in both urban and rural areas over here has also become vulnerable to incidents of deaths due to stray bullets or aerial firing. Increase in such occurrences and registration of FIRs in police stations against unknown ‘killers’ are testimony to this bitter fact.
A question always pricks the mind that why aerial firing is still continuing with all horrible repercussions despite all drastic steps by the governments and launching stringent campaigns by the public. Even during Ramazan it claimed certain human lives hence speaking about the apathy on the part of our social fabric.
