Arshad Ayub says small dams projects would revolutionaries agri sector
PESHAWAR
An important meeting held here on Thursday with provincial minister for Irrigation Arshad Ayub Khan in the chair, reviewed progress so far made on the construction of different small dams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Secretary Irrigation Muhammad Ayaz, Additional Secretary Nawaz Khan, Director General Small Dams Sahibzada Shabbir and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
In the meeting, Provincial Irrigation Minister Arshad Ayub Khan was given a detailed briefing on ongoing projects under the supervision of the Small Dams Directorate.
The meeting was informed so far 21 projects of small dams have been completed under the supervision directorate of Small Dams.
Sahibzada Shabir, director general of small dams informed the forum that the projects completed irrigate 85505 acres of land for agriculture productions while the dams have also been used for storing 61644 acre feet of water.
Currently 37 schemes of small dams are underway in KP while one scheme implementation has been completed, he added.
Minister for Irrigation Arshad Ayub Khan directed the quarter concerned that steps should be taken to prevent establishment of housing colonies on agricultural lands in the province.
“The construction of small dams will increase the level of underground water and will help the framers to increase the production of their crops,” he added.
The completion of ongoing small dams schemes in the province would bring green revolution and would increase the under cultivation areas in KP, he said.
Mr Arshad clarified that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was working on small dams constructions as part of its policy manifesto and all possible steps would be taken to complete the ongoing projects.
During the briefing, the provincial minister was informed in detail about the cost of the projects, the progress on the ongoing work and the problems faced. Irrigation minister appreciated the performance of the Small Dams Directorate.
