ISLAMABAD
Federal Minister for Border Affairs Senator Talha Mehmood on Monday told National Assembly (NA) that government was taking adequate steps for properly registering the unlisted Afghan nationals in Pakistan.
While replying to a question during National Assembly’s Question Hour Session, the minister revealed that more than 1.2 million Afghans were currently living in Pakistan. Senator Talha Mehmood said procedure was also initiated to register Afghan nationals who came to Pakistan during and after the Kabul take over by Taliban.
Member National Assembly (MNA) Munawwar Hassan while expressing dissatisfaction over minister’s answer said that illegal National Identity Cards (NIC) and Domiciles were being issued to Afghans.
Upon this, the minister agreed with Munawwar and admitted that NICs were issued to Afghan nationals illegally. However, he said that a joint strategy will be introduced in collaboration with Interior Ministry.
