More than 1.3m schoolchildren provided with new furniture in phase-1
PESHAWAR
An important meeting held here on Monday with the provincial education minister Shahram Khan Tarakai in the chair, reviewed provision of furniture and other basic facilities in the government schools of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Director Education Dr Hafiz Muhammad Ibrahim and other senior officials of the elementary and secondary education department attended the meeting.
The forum was briefed about the provision of furniture provisions to government schools in the first phase.
It was informed that the provincial government has completed the process of small and big tablet chairs to 1.346 million schoolchildren across KP.
The delivery of more 1,30,000 chairs would be initiated very soon in the second phase of the scheme.
The provincial minister Shahram Khan Tarkai maintained the provincial government was going in the right direction in provision of furniture to public sector schools.
“Today is a very happy day for him because of the promise he made to children now instead of tots,” he added.
He appreciated officials of the education department for successfully completing the phase first of the project, adding strict accountability measures should be ensured in the second phase of furniture provision to government-run schools.
Shahram Khan maintained that the education department would take strict legal action against the principal of any school where the furniture was found in the store room instead of being given to the children.
KP’s education minister was also given a detailed briefing in the meeting regarding Public Private Partnership and establishment of a Directorate of Professional Development in the province.
Education minister Shahram Taraki expressed his satisfaction on the overall performance of the department.
