LAHORE: The investigation officers will not obtain the record of mobile phone calls without an FIR. The Punjab IG police released new SOPs with regard to obtaining Call Detail Record (CDR). There have been complaints that the investigation officers not only nab the accused after laying their hands on the most sensitive record, they also keep nagging the common citizens. Realizing the gravity of the matter, all the police departments have been directed to seek permission from the IG police before obtaining the CDR of a common citizen and this permission should be in black and white. It has been observed that the CDR information is being obtained with the connivance of police in Lahore and other areas of Punjab and this information is being misused. According to data, the police are obtaining as many as 150,000 CDRs daily in Lahore alone while in Punjab the IOs are retrieving 600,000 CDRs on daily basis. DNA
