Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders in Pakistan, affecting an estimated 2.2 to 2.5 million people nationwide, and it needs cost effective treatment and prompt emergency response, said world-renowned neurologist and Epileptologist Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui.
She was talking at the 32nd National Neurology Conference, where she took the leading role, contributing as a session chair, speaker, and judge.
Dr. Siddiqui chaired a major session and delivering two key presentations. Her first talk addressed advances in the emergency management of epilepsy, with a specific focus on cost-effective treatment options tailored for Pakistan.
Her second presentation focused on her work as the Principal Investigator and Chairperson of the National Epilepsy Registry, an initiative dedicated to collecting data on how the Pakistani population responds to various epilepsy medications.
She said that approximately 1 percent of the Pakistani population lives with active epilepsy, with the burden being even higher in rural communities where access to specialist care remains limited.
