27,000 patients received dialysis services in the hospital, report

Around 1.8 million patients were treated in Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) Peshawar in 2022.
According to HMC annual performance report for 2022, the hospital conducted 27,000 dialysis operations, 150,000 X-Rays, 113314 Ultrasounds and more than 2 million medical tests of patients visited the hospital in 2022.
More than 800,000 patients were brought to HMC’s accident department, while 30,000 Afghans benefited from the health facilities at the hospital, it added.
According to the HMC administration, 550000 patients were given treatment in OPD while 40,000 people received treatment facilities through the health facility program.
The HMC Peshawar has spent around Rs1.2 billion on the patients receiving treatment under the government health care system.
During the same period of time 102507 patients were admitted in HMC Peshawar for provision of various medical facilities while more than 50,000 operations were also performed, including more than 20,000 major operations.
During the last year, 30 percent of patients were referred to HMC for better medical facilities from other hospitals in the province, including the big private hospitals in Peshawar.
In addition to the health facility program, the hospital also provided free medicines worth Rs4 million to the patients visiting the hospital for medical treatment in the outgoing year, said the report.
For the convenience of the patients, the hospital administration established pharmacies in the operation theaters so that the medicines used during the operation can be provided to the patient at the same place.
In 2022, as in previous years, diagnostic services continued uninterruptedly in the Radiology and Pathology Department and 9574 MRIs, 19731 CT scans, 165965 different X-rays, 113314 ultrasounds and 2017962 different tests were conducted, while 300 Afghans benefited from free radiology and pathology.
It may be noted that HMC is the only government hospital in the province to provide diagnostic facilities through 1.5 Tesla MRI machines and in 2022 advanced CT scan and 3D mammogram were added to the radiology department to further improve diagnosis.
In addition, the hospital also carried out 400 open heart surgeries, 4428 angiography and 2086 angioplasty.
