Merged Areas development top priority, says CS-KP

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash has said that the provincial government is taking pragmatic steps for the sustainable development of erstwhile Fata.
He said that Newly Merged Areas (NMAs) have been suffering from deprivation for many decades and concrete measures are needed to bring these districts at par with other districts of the province.
These views were expressed by the Chief Secretary while presiding over a meeting regarding “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Investment and Institutional Support Project” with the support of the World Bank (WB). According to details, the WB would provide funds worth 300 million dollars for smooth implementation of the above-mentioned project.
Dr Shahzad Bangash maintained that Resettlement is a major challenge due to the extensive damage caused by the recent floods in the province.
In the current situation, the provincial government has re-evaluated the development projects and set priorities for ex-Fata.
A WB delegation led by An Ordinal along with team leader of the technical mission and relevant departments secretaries attended the meeting and discussed development initiatives in the NMAs.
The appointment of a Project Director was discussed for early initiation of critical consultancy services and retroactive financing for the project in ex-Fata.
Under the project, construction of infrastructure for various sectors in the province including merged districts, institutional development and resettlement in flood affected areas.
The Chief Secretary assured the WB delegation of full cooperation from the provincial government.
