Women hold rally against excessive power off, injustice distribution of quota flour in Landi Kotal

A protest demonstration against excessive load shedding and unfair distribution of quota flour was held here at Shiekhwal village of subdivision Landi Kotal,district Khyber on Wednesday.
Scores of local female protestors of Shiekhwal village accompanied by a large number of children approached the Pak-Afghan highway and put blockade at the road to suspend it for all kinds of movement.
The protestors were of the view that the WAPDA officials decreased supply of electricity from four hours to two hours round the clock beside local management of the grid station officials that was equllent to sprinkle salt on the wounds of them.
Prolonged power off affected routine life and created an artificial problem of scarcity of potable water in the area, they remarked.
They also expressed reservation over the distribution of quota flour and said the poor were neglected while the necessary food item was provided to near and dear ones, they blamed.
Remaining closed for two hours, the highway was resumed after assurance of the officials.
Due to locking of the route long queues of export and import loaded vehicles could be witnessed at both sides of the road.
Meanwhile a grand meeting of councilors and tribal elders under the head of tehsil chairman Haji Shah Khalid was held at Tehsil Municipal Office (TMO) who expressed their reservation over the new schedule Issued by the WAPDA officials according to that only two hour electricity would be supplied in 24 hours to the residents.
When the Deputy Commissioner, Khyber Shah Fahad was contacted on the matter he said following assurance of the TESCO chief power supply would be resumed as per old plan (five hours round the clock).
